Who ScanBridge is for

One network, three perspectives

ScanBridge sits between the clinician who needs imaging and the provider with capacity to deliver it, with the patient's experience in view throughout.

For referrers

A standardised route to imaging without the phone calls and chasing.

  • A standardised referral process for every examination
  • Clear, structured referral information captured once
  • Access to multiple imaging providers in one place
  • Reduced administrative burden on your practice team
  • Visibility of appointment availability before you refer
  • End-to-end referral tracking with plain-language statuses

For imaging providers

Fill genuine spare X-ray and CT capacity with complete referrals.

  • Fill available X-ray and CT capacity across your sites
  • Receive standardised, protocol-aligned referrals
  • Reduce incomplete and rejected referrals
  • Manage incoming requests in one queue
  • Improve capacity utilisation and reduce unused slots

For patients

Clarity on where, when and at what cost — where the pathway allows it.

  • Transparent pricing shown before booking
  • Visible appointment availability
  • Comparison across participating providers
  • Digital booking rather than telephone queues
  • Referral status tracking from booking to report

Patient-facing features apply only where the referral pathway permits direct patient involvement. Many examinations require a referral from an entitled clinician under IR(ME)R 2017.

How it works

A structured pathway, not a request form

Every ScanBridge referral follows the same route, so providers receive complete information and referrers receive predictable turnaround.

01

Structured referral

A guided nine-step workflow captures the requester, the clinical question, the examination and a documented justification.

02

Provider matching

Referrals are matched against participating providers by modality, examination, location, capacity, price and reporting turnaround.

03

Appointment booking

The referrer selects a real published slot. The appointment is confirmed with location, time, price and expected reporting timeframe.

04

Tracked to completion

Every status change is recorded, so referrers always know where a patient is in the pathway.

Referral tracking

Always know where a referral is

ScanBridge uses one shared set of statuses across every provider in the network, described in plain language for referrers, providers and patients alike.

  1. 01

    Draft

The referral has been started but not yet sent to a provider.

  2. 02

    Submitted

The referral has been sent and is waiting to be picked up by the provider.

  3. 03

    Under review

The imaging provider is checking the referral against their protocols and justification requirements.

  4. 04

    Accepted

The provider has accepted the referral and will offer an appointment.

  5. 05

    Appointment available

An appointment slot has been offered and is waiting to be confirmed.

  6. 06

    Appointment booked

The appointment is confirmed with a date, time and location.

  7. 07

    Patient attended

The patient has arrived at the provider site for their examination.

  8. 08

    Imaging completed

The examination has been performed and the images have been acquired.

  9. 09

    Report pending

The images are with the reporting radiologist and a report is being prepared.

  10. 10

    Report available

The report has been issued by the provider and is ready for the referrer.

  11. 11

    Completed

The referral pathway is finished and no further action is expected.

Imaging providers with spare capacity

NHS departments with spare sessions, independent diagnostic centres, mobile imaging units and community diagnostic centres can publish available X-ray and CT capacity and receive complete, protocol-aligned referrals.

Referring clinicians

GPs, physiotherapists, chiropractors, sports medicine and occupational health clinicians, insurers and solicitors operating under an agreed referral protocol can raise a structured referral and book an appointment in a single sitting.

Make a Referral

ScanBridge is a referral and capacity network. It does not acquire, interpret or report imaging, and it does not replace emergency care. Suspected emergencies must be directed to NHS emergency pathways. While the platform is in sandbox mode it holds synthetic demonstration data only.
